Characters without stories

Sometimes only a fragment of an idea will rattle its way out of my head and into a drawing- or the idea crumbles around the edges.  This one is a favorite, so I'm using the blog as a mental post-it note to keep it on the surface.  Frankly, the electronic art files are vast and the piles of sketches are even worse.  Someday there will be a story for you, my friend.

  1. Those characters without stories are the best. You can let them tell you more about themselves over time, rather than conjuring up a character to meet a specific literary description on the spot.

  2. I've never thought of it that way, to be honest. What a great way of looking at things! It turns your drawings into the sort of people you pass on the street every day—they're characters without stories (at least without stories you know), too.

    (Great drawing, by the way!)
